Lyme Disease Symptoms

The amount of cases of Lyme disease reported each year has grown progressively since 1991. In 2006, nearly 20,000 reported cases of Lyme disease, according to figures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Lyme disease begins as a skin rash, and if left without treatment it can affect the nervous system. On many occasions we have heard of the ferocity of ticks. We must bear in mind that these insects do not only attack dogs but can affect humans with effects that are quite negative. This disease is also known as Borreliosis.

Lyme Disease Symptoms The main route of transmission of Lyme disease is a tick bite which often carries a bacterium called Borrelia burgdorferi. There are four types of Lyme disease symptoms. Let's discuss each one as they have different symptoms.

Primary Lyme Disease

  • Redness of the skin in the area where the tick bite.
  • Fever
  • Muscle aches
  • Headache
  • Swelling and joint pain

Secondary Lyme disease

 Besides those described in the preceding paragraph also comes with:

  • Palpitations
  • Blurred vision
  • Neurological problems (impaired vision, language or other skills)

Tertiary Lyme Disease

In the above symptoms is added:

  • Neurological disorders such as severe memory loss, confusion, loss of sleep ...
  • Aggravation of joint pain and musculoskeletal problems.

Chronic Lyme Disease

The symptoms persisted despite treatment with antibiotics.
